‘Alleys and Rivers of the East’ is a series of artworks by artist Jonathan Brennan on the theme of alleyways, greenways and rivers in East Belfast. Comprising works on paper and unique multi-photograph compositions, the exhibition will also feature Brennan’s short film Alleys of the East.
The subject of alleys, or entries, and the ways in which we use them has intrigued Brennan from his arrival in Belfast. Exhibiting some of the alley pieces in 2017, he has since turned his attention to the hidden rivers of East Belfast, following them under bridges and down culverts as they snake through our semi-urban landscape.
The result is a fascinating mix of monotypes, cyanotypes, etchings, photographs and video.
